Modern Eichler Remodel: Week 42

April 7, 2019

Loads of great news this week – they’ve lifted massive steel beams onto the roof and we’ve passed our first plumbing inspection. The weight has been lifted 😉

Since all of the foam, tar and gravel, and old electrical cables are removed from the roof, we’ll have a clean slate for all the modern updates planned. Here are a few photos from our project manager, in which you can see the tube steel beams being laid in place.

And here are a few more photos of the progress last week…

I am loving reading about your project. My father in law had his first Eichler in Lucas Valley back in the early 60’s. He then moved to another in San Jose. We bought a Rummer in 2016, which is is Oregon’s version of an Eichler. Ours actually is an A. Quincy Jones plan so is just like some in the Bay Area. We also took the whole house down to the studs, fixed water issues, earthquake retrofitted, new sewer, all nee plumbing, electrical, insulation etc. The remodel took us 9 months, though we owned the house almost a year before we got started. Though there are still a few things left on our lists inside like a Kitchen backsplash. We moved in Aug 2018 and have been working on the yard ever since. We have a huge lot, so built 2 out buildings to match the house too. I am impressed you have documented it every week. I am very behind, but have all of the posts I still want to write outlined. I am happy to have found your blog. Thank you for the great documentation. Our blog is rummerreno.blog

Thank you, Dana for the kind words. And glad to hear you made it through your renovation as well! Your project looks great and I’m just starting to learn about Rummer’s. The similarities are wonderful. Sounds like we are following an all too familiar path and I can’t wait to see all of your upcoming projects. Cheers!
