Modern Eichler Remodel: Week 52

June 16, 2019

It’s starting to feel real. Electrical, plumbing and fire sprinkler permits are approved and rough-in carpentry complete. Work to close in the roof has started, which means interior insulation is a go.

The newest challenge with the roof has been re-designing the solar panel layout so that the anchors don’t puncture any pipes or wires on the roof. As you know, all of the water, electrical, exhaust pipes, etc. that are normally hidden inside a drywall ceiling, are positioned on top of the roof in an Eichler home.

We had to abandon the initial solar array over the master bedroom, but David and Shervin have been working hard with Tesla on alternate options.

Fingers crossed we come to a resolution this week so that we don’t delay the schedule to close in the roof.

Once the roof is insulated, a very specific layout of plywood sheathing will be laid and secured with a precise nailing pattern per the structural engineers guidance. Folks, this is California earthquake readiness at its best…

On a lighter note, I stumbled upon a Nashville company, Samplize, who creates reusable peel and stick paint samples, with real paint, so that you can easily visualize interior and exterior paint colors. This is awesome, because we’ve already looked at 8 paint colors, which would have been a massive waste of paint cans.

Here is the exterior paint color and front door color that we have submitted to the HOA Architecture committee for review.
