Week 7:
We’ve officially started demolition on our Eichler home. And let’s be clear – this a “light” demo to start, as we will need to wait for a structural engineer to examine our walls before we tear them down. The ideal situation is that we remove the wall dividing the kitchen and living/dining room – but could run into some issues with a sheer wall – and new earthquake requirements.
Nonetheless – we’re excited! And here’s David looking like a demo pro with that bookcase 🙂
Appliance selection list – Round 1
We also spent an insane amount of time narrowing down on kitchen appliances so we could keep moving in parallel with Henrybuilt. Here’s our list of first choice appliances if anyone is interested. And yes, I went to a Miele class in SF this week to learn what the heck the difference is between a Speed Oven, a Combi-Steam Oven, and a Convection Oven… very enlightening.
Brand | Appliance | Model |

Kitchen Materials
David and I have been struggling with the decision between tall cabinets that are walnut or white, paired with either all black appliances or stainless steel. Luckily, David is super creative and comped together some options for us…
Countertops
After loads of research about the pros and cons of natural stone vs. composites, we are leaning towards a Quartz composite. Yes, I now marble is lovely, but the maintenance and care required to make sure it doesn’t stain is not worth it. Also, you have to reseal marble every 6 months. Ugh.
We found a few really beautiful quartz options that had a natural stone look from Vadara.

More to come next week as my parents come to town to help us demo the house!

Yes!!! So excited that you’re going with Quartz. We had marble and it wasn’t worth it. Such a pain, unless you love the etched look.
Also, love you are putting that Interior Design class knowledge to work!
You are making me want to do a blog of ours too!
And we are totally with you on the composite marble look. Screw the 6 monthly seal…
Keep up the good work guys. We love you xx
